Introducing the web editor

Hi! My name is Cian O’Luanaigh, and I’ve just joined CERN as web editor for the new public site.

My background is in science journalism; I worked both as a reporter and online producer for New Scientist magazine before my move to CERN. My focus on this project is to ensure that all content on the site is accurate, engaging, and presented in the most effective way. I can’t do this on my own: in the coming weeks, I’ll be working closely with the various communications teams at CERN to make sure we can deliver clear and exciting web “packages” (content-rich pages) to engage users across a variety of media.

It’s an exciting time for the web at CERN. Joining the team at this conceptual stage is a great opportunity to anticipate users’ problems, and to think about what kinds of content visitors will best engage with.

I’m currently reviewing the existing public site, identifying pages that need updating and information “gaps” to fill. The next step in the process will be to think about new content, to devise clear criteria for different page types on the new site, and work out how best to deliver them. A consistent web framework will help to bring together the disparate media outlets at CERN, better to communicate the great stories, talented people and ground-breaking science the organization boasts.

I look forward to working with all of you.
